Data taking of the ATLAS experiment is expected to start towards end 2007. The reconstruction of
the particle trajectories is performed in the Inner Detector by silicon and drift tube based subdetectors.
The position of the silicon detector elements have to be known to a precision better than
10 micrometers. This precision can be achieved by track based
alignment algorithms combined with measurements from hardware based
alignment techniques.
The Valencia SCT group is collaborating with the Oxford SCT group in the implementation and
extensive testing of the GlobalChi2 algorithm intended to align the ATLAS silicon detectors to the required precision.
